Reviews

What an incredible way to promote literacy
Alissa Antle, Assistant Professor, Simon Fraser University
The concept of Hooked on Books is unique and clever. I was delighted to have my picture book Pygmalion interpreted with humour and charm.
Glenda Leznoff, author
I want to read ALL the books you showed us.
Tyson Zart, age 10
This recent performance was the best I have ever seen, and after the show, students and teachers alike were thrilled and amazed. As always the audience watched with riveted attention as snippets of stories were carefully unveiled. Thank you for your encouragement of student reading over the years.
Steve Koebel, Principal, Ecole Willow Point Elementary

Jane Says

Hooked on Books was founded in 1996 when I met the amazingly talented Laurie Brazzill. My children were young at the time and I was acutely aware of the importance of literacy. Laurie and I wanted to find a way to get children excited about reading so we created the “book trailer”, a little teaser to whet the appetite for the main course inside a book. We put several of these together and our first show “Lead On, Read On” was born. The company took off immediately and our adventures began. We covered thousands of miles and our travels have taken us to some of the remotest and most beautiful parts of Western Canada. I still have some of the hundreds of amazing letters we received from children sharing their feelings and drawings and most importantly, telling us which book they were going to read next. This was a hugely stimulating, challenging and rewarding part of my career.
